Documentary filmmaker

Simon Clode is a self-shooting documentary filmmaker

I make films and installations that explore the relationship between land, power, inheritance, and memory.

Community

The relationships between people and the places they inhabit. Shared experience, language, labour, and memory shape collective identity over time.

Inheritance

What is passed from one generation to the next. Stories, language, traditions, responsibilities, and claims to land continue to shape the present.

Land

The landscapes where history, labour, conflict, and life unfold. Land is approached not as backdrop but as a witness to human experience.

Memory

Tracing what remains through landscapes, archives, oral histories, language, and lived experience. Memory persists in places long after events have passed.

Mythology

Stories, symbols, and beliefs through which people understand themselves and their relationship to place. Mythology allows the past to remain active within the present.

Power

The forces that shape land, resources, movement, and everyday life. Power is often exercised through ownership, borders, mapping, language, and access.
